What is the UWA Gorilla Permit cancellation policy in Uganda. To go for gorilla tracking you are required to have a gorilla permit, with this it is preferred that one who books a gorilla permit should be able to utilize it for the trek on a given date. Gorilla permit cancellations penalties and policy in Uganda, Rwanda and Congo are the same when you fail to make it to the date of the trek from 0 to 8 days, to the day of tracking and with this you don’t get the refund for the permits. For the last 6 months gorilla permits cancellation policies have changed a lot due to the outbreak of Corona Virus which has forced both countries to relax the cancellation policies, in Uganda all gorilla treks that were affected by the pandemic have been given an opportunity to changed their dates of trekking twice up to 2022 December.
Below is the summary of the UWA Gorilla Permit cancellation policy in Uganda
Uganda Wildlife Authority will retain the following percentages upon cancellation for your gorilla permit;
0-8 days tracking date – No refund
9-45 days to tracking date – 75% (25% Refund to Client)
46-90 days to tracking date – 50% (50% Refund to Client)
91 days and above to tracking date – 30% (70% Refund to Client)
Refund will be calculated on the full value of the gorilla permit purchased that is $700 for the gorilla trekking permit and $1500 for the gorilla habituation experience permits. These terms and conditions are liable to change/review without notice.
What is the best time for Gorilla Trekking in Africa?

This gorilla permit includes spending one hour with a given habituated mountain gorilla family. During this one hour, you will be allowed to take still photos as wells simple videos. Please read our dos and don’ts while with mountain gorillas. You will also listen to an informative talk from your guide or the day. Included as well is services of a ranger guide and tourism police to ensure that security in the forest is guaranteed. The ranger from Uganda Wildlife Authority will be carrying a gun probably an AK47 to scare away any stray animal that may misbehave along the way. Park entry fees for Bwindi impenetrable National Park and or Mgahinga national park is also included in the pre-purchased gorilla permits and is valid for 24 hours.
Gorilla habituation permit and what is included or excluded.

Instead of booking the standard gorilla trekking permit that allows you to spend one hour, we advise you to consider booking gorilla habituation experience permit which will enable you to spend up to four hours with mountain gorillas still under habituation in Bwindi impenetrable National Park. At the moment, Uganda Wildlife Authority is having two gorilla families located in the southern parts of Bwindi impenetrable National Park reserved for gorilla habituation experience. Unconfirmed reports also indicate that another family is being habituated in the northern part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park to cater for the people staying in Buhoma and Ruhija regions of Bwindi forest.
In all the above situations, you will be awarded a certificate to confirm that at one time you visited Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking and also to support the rare mountain gorillas since part of your gorilla permit fee goes to the conservation of mountain gorillas as well as paying the staff of Uganda and Wildlife Authority.
