Mgahinga National Park
Mgahinga National Park is another gorilla park close to Nkuringo, 46 km (29 mi) about 1:45 minute drive. Many travelers opt to track both Bwindi and Mgahinga Gorillas to get a double jungle experience and also see the endangered golden monkey.
Virunga Volcanoes
Mt. Sabyinyo (366m) – ‘Old man’s teeth’, Mt. Gahinga (3474m) and Mt. Muhavura (4127m) – ‘The Guide’ are three of the famous peaks that attract visitors to hike into Mgahinga National Park. Are you one of them?
Buniga Forest
Buniga Forest Reserve is one of the most popular place to visit in Nkuringo. With trails starting exactly in Nkuringo (5 minutes from the Lodge), this place will give you an exciting journey into the Batwa Pygmy natives cultures.
Suma Waterfalls
It is also a community walk across villages. The waterfall is found in a village called Suma. It’s a 6 kms walk from Nkuringo. When going to the waterfalls you pass one of the biggest villages in the area; with more than 500 people.
Nombe Forest
The pocket forest was part of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and is still quite impenetrable. It was cut off from the forest as people needed more land to live on and cultivate. It takes around 2 hours to get there, 2 hours to the edge of the forest.
Ivy River
This Ivy River route ascends and descends gently through beautiful areas of the rain forest with several viewpoints from the marram road to Nkuringo overlooking lush mist shrouded valleys.
Kashasha River
Slightly more challenging than the Ivy River Trail, Kashasha River Trail (17 kilometers), offers visitors an up close experience of the natural wonders within the Bwindi rainforest environment.
Lake Mutanda
This scenic lake lies just north of Kisoro and makes for a relaxing base from which to explore the area. Take a dig-in canoe challenge on the calm waters with the misty Virunga volcanoes as a backdrop and ringed by papyrus swamp.
