The walking safaris within the park are managed and guided by Uganda Wildlife Authority where you will be allocated by one of the park rangers to take you on the walk in the park; the walk takes you approximately 2 hours in various parts of the park where you will have a chance to see various wildlife and birds including Giraffes, Zebras, Elands, Topis, Impalas, the bird list of this park contains papyrus and acacia species which include the papyrus gonelek, papyrus yellow warbler, white-winged warbler and the shoebill stork.
The walking safaris outside the park are conducted by the local communities and the lodges Rwakobo Rock Lodge and Mihingo Lodge, this walk as well give you an opportunity to see same wildlife like in the park with added visit to the local communities and seeing the local traditional Ankole long horned cattle. The nature walk with in the park that is managed by Uganda Wildlife Authority costs USD15 for both Foreign Non residents and Foreign residents and for the East African Citizens it is 10,000 Uganda shillings. A nature walk in Lake Mburo can be booked in advance or arrival, booking in advance will require you to pay the nature walk fees at Uganda Wildlife Authority who will give you a wildlife card that will be shown upon arrival to Lake Mburo for the walking safari. How to Access Lake Mburo National Park for a walking safari
By Road: Lake Mburo National Park is located between the towns of Masaka and Mbarara close to the main south western road that links Kampala to Bwindi Impenetrable forest national park. It is 228km drive from Kampala to Lake Mburo National Park which takes you approximately 3-4 hours drive each way. The park can be accessed from various main gates which include Kyanyanshara Gate linking you to Mihingo Lodge, Akagate Gate and Sanga Gate which leads you to Rwakobo Rock Lodge. The park is close to the main road making it easy for accessibility you will need to follow sign posts of Uganda Wildlife Authority.
By Air; Flying Safari to Lake Mburo National Park is also available via charter and scheduled flights from Kajjansi and Entebbe International Airport, operators of these route include Aero Link Uganda and Fly Uganda among others. This however needs to be booked in advance given the fact the routing is mostly determined by the number of travelers aboard the flight with the minimum being 4 people.
