How are game drives in Uganda compared to Kenya, Game drives in Uganda and Kenya offer unique experiences due to differences in landscapes, wildlife, and conservation efforts. Here is a comparison of how are game drives in Uganda compared to Kenya:
- Wildlife Diversity: Both Uganda and Kenya boast diverse wildlife populations, including the Big Five (lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhinoceros). However, Kenya is perhaps better known for its large herds of herbivores, especially during the Great Migration in the Maasai Mara. Uganda, on the other hand, is renowned for its population of mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and chimpanzees in Kibale National Park.
- Landscape: Kenya’s landscape is characterized by vast savannahs, rolling hills, and dramatic landscapes, particularly in areas like the Maasai Mara and Amboseli National Park with views of Mount Kilimanjaro. Uganda offers more diverse landscapes, including savannahs, dense forests, and wetlands. The country is also home to the Rwenzori Mountains and the source of the Nile River.
- Accessibility: Kenya has a well-developed tourism infrastructure with numerous lodges, camps, and well-maintained roads, particularly in popular safari destinations like the Maasai Mara and Amboseli. Uganda’s infrastructure is less developed in comparison, although efforts are being made to improve roads and facilities in key tourist areas.
- Crowds: Kenya’s popular national parks, such as the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, and Tsavo, can attract large numbers of tourists, especially during peak seasons. Uganda’s national parks generally receive fewer visitors, offering a more intimate and less crowded safari experience.
- Cost: Kenya tends to have a wider range of accommodation options catering to different budgets, from luxury lodges to budget campsites. Uganda’s accommodation options may be more limited, but there are still choices available for various budgets. Generally, Uganda may be slightly more budget-friendly in terms of park fees and accommodation costs compared to Kenya.
- Guiding and Conservation: Both countries have professional guides who are knowledgeable about the local wildlife and ecosystems. Conservation efforts are also in place in both Uganda and Kenya to protect endangered species and their habitats, although challenges such as poaching persist in both countries.
In summary, while both Uganda and Kenya offer exceptional game drive experiences, the choice between them may depend on factors such as specific wildlife interests, preferred landscapes, budget considerations, and tolerance for crowds. Kenya may be more suitable for those interested in witnessing the Great Migration or exploring vast savannah landscapes, while Uganda offers unique opportunities for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking in addition to traditional game drives.

Surrounded by water, it is actually a peninsula and is currently only accessible by boat from the East or West side.
The shores host abundant birdlife including pelicans, cormorants, and fish-eagles with their haunting cry. There are more animals per acre than any other Kenyan Park, hence many film companies have been to the Island to film the herds of Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Zebra, and Gazelle.
Hippo graze all over us at night then sleep under the acacia or rest in the water by day. Often you can see three generations of Giraffe at a time, all of whom have been born on the Island. And if you’re lucky you may see one of the beautiful Pythons who live here.
From the top of the hill, there is a 360-degree view across the Lake from Longonot to Hell’s Gate to the Mau Escarpment to Eburu and onto the Aberdares.
